Take a gander and this beauty. Don't you just want to jump through the computer screen and dive in?! It's no secret that nothing inspires me more in the kitchen than traveling and indulging in delicious food. This lovely dessert plate happened to be the finale for one of our favorite Italian dinners and it was divine.
I learned a good lesson from this plate. So much of my job is the pressure to come up with the latest and greatest recipe that no one has ever seen or heard of before. Sometimes this leads to some cuckoo idea that results in a recipe that has 47 ingredients and 17 steps. Not exactly the kind of cooking that I'm hoping to endorse. This plate was simplicity at its finest, and one of the most delicious things we had all trip. It was strawberries at their prime with mascarpone gelato and cherries on the side to nibble on in between the luscious bites of strawberries and creamy gelato. It was the perfect reminder that food is best when seasonal ingredients can speak for themselves. Food that is not fussed with is king. I hope that I get to teach people that through my job - and enjoy plenty of simple fruit dessert plates along the way.
