Laying it all out
If you plan to picnic or potluck this summer you need a great surface. When it comes to picnicking I love and outdoor blanket like this Little Unicorn Outdoor Picnic Blanket that folds up easy making it perfect for transporting. It’s also the perfect fabric for combating wet grass. I like to keep this in the back of my car all summer. If you’re wanting a bit more of a solid surface for your get together this Table in a Bag is AWESOME. We’ve had ours since Ollie’s second birthday party when I bought it to serve his cake on in Central Park. We’ve used it consistently every summer since. Finally, if it’s a potluck your planning for, I can’t say enough wonderful things about this beautiful Gathre Tablecloth that is WIPEABLE! This is a game changer for easy entertaining. I’ve also used this at the park over an old picnic table.
Baskets + Totes
As cute as a good old-fashioned picnic basket is, it’s not entirely practical. I’m a much bigger fan of a picnic tote. This Freezable Picnic Tote is a perfect alternative to a cooler if you’re just transporting a few drinks. For a bag that can literally fit it all check out the Hearth + Home Seagrass Tote – it’s so good looking and holds SO much. For quick afternoon picnics with my kids, I love my Freshly Picked Park Pack and my Freshly Picked City Pack. The quality of these bags are top notch and I’m thrilled that the fanny pack is BACK! I also keep a few of these Blue Ele Slim Ice Packs in my freezer to throw in picnic totes.
For slicing baguettes and cheese along with opening some beverages, this Picnic Knife is essential and the design is so smart. I also like to keep a Utensil Caddy packed and ready to go for last-minute dinners at the park. It’s such an easy way to transport plates, utensils, napkins, and even a plastic bag for garbage. For potlucks, I think everyone could use this Potluck serving set. I never seem to have enough serving spoons or forks on hand. This is an affordable set that you’ll be glad you have ready to go any time you’re entertaining.
If you plan to picnic as much as I do this summer, consider investing in some reusable dishes. Melamine is so great for this – a few of my favorites include these Now Designs Melamine Dinner Plates, West Elm Melamine Dishes, and these Target Melamine Dishes. I also love these Target Heart + Home Enamel Plates! These biodegradable iTavah Degradable Wheat Straw Plates are fantastic for single uses. When it comes to utensils, consider this Disposable Wooden Cutlery and these Silicone Straws.
Finally, every good picnic or potluck has a fun element! I’ve recently picked up this Hunter for Target Racquet Set, a Big Bubble Wand for each of my kiddos and a Water squirter for those extra hot get-togethers.
